Quilting Point’s projects ultimately produce
documentaries, but are typically grounded in prior field and academic
research on the respective topics. Project #1Quilting Point’s first project was an award-winning film produced under “InCounter Productions,” titled About Baghdad (www.AboutBaghdad.com)Project #2Quilting Points second project deals with the contentious topic of “Arabs and Terrorism,” (http://www.ArabsandTerrorism.com). It is an ongoing multi-faceted research and documentary project that is unique in its breadth and scope: researched in 6 languages and filmed on location in 10 countries, with 95 experts/politicians and hundreds of street interviews in the United States, Europe, and the Arab world. It examines the dominant discourse on terrorism in the United States and Europe and offers critics an opportunity to respond. The documentary component of this project consists of several miniseries for television and a feature length film. The first miniseries is a three-part investigation of the discourses on Arabs and terrorism. The episodes, first screened on Al-Arabiya in March 2006, concern Definitions of Terrorism, State Terrorism, and Terrorism and Resistance.
For more information, please visit Project #3The second miniseries, examining “European-Arab Relations” regarding the topic, is in post/production and will air in September 2006 on Al-ArabiyaProject #4The third miniseries examines a) the “War on Terrorism” and b) the claim that there is an affinity between Arab/Islamic culture and violence/terrorism. This project is currently in production. A Corollary of this project is an examination of the dominant media and popular culture discourses on terrorism in the United States, with an eye to the dominant counter-part discourse in the Arab world. Project #5The culmination of these mini-series will be a feature film that is due to be released internationally in late 2006/early 2007. |
